MATTRESS/APPLIANCE PHILOSOPHY
At Bare Bones, we view mattresses and appliances differently than every other product we sell. A beautiful dining room is wonderful. A comfortable recliner is nice to have. A new bedroom set can transform a room — but those are wants. Mattresses and appliances are necessities. A mattress is the only product we sell that has the potential to make you a better husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, employee, employer, or friend. Better sleep affects your health, your patience, your relationships, your productivity, and ultimately the quality of your life. Appliances serve a different purpose, but they are no less important. Most families don't shop for a refrigerator because they woke up wanting a shiny new refrigerator — they shop because the old one stopped working and there's a week's worth of groceries that need to stay cold. They don't buy a washer because it's exciting. They buy one because modern families shouldn't have to spend hours washing clothes by hand. These products don't just make life more comfortable — they make modern life possible. Because they're necessities, we believe they deserve a different kind of respect.
That's why we've built our mattress and appliance programs differently than most retailers. Our mattresses come from carefully selected wholesale opportunities and are inspected to meet our standards for safety and compliance with applicable regulations. Our appliances come from quality scratch-and-dent inventory, where cosmetic imperfections create exceptional savings without compromising the product's intended performance.
Unfortunately, mattresses and appliances are two of the industries most affected by Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policies.
What is MAP? MAP stands for Minimum Advertised Price — a policy used by many manufacturers that establishes the lowest price a retailer is allowed to publicly advertise for a product. It is primarily designed to maintain a manufacturer's pricing image by preventing advertised price competition between dealers. At Bare Bones, we respectfully disagree with that philosophy. We believe a mattress should be valued because it helps someone sleep better — not because a manufacturer controls how low a retailer can advertise it. We believe a refrigerator should be valued because it keeps a family's food safe — not because every retailer is expected to display the same advertised price. Our focus isn't on protecting the appearance of value. Our focus is on delivering real value.
What That Means for You
That's why we spend countless hours researching wholesale opportunities, building supplier relationships, and searching for quality mattresses and scratch-and-dent appliances that offer genuine savings. Finding these opportunities isn't easy — the inventory changes constantly. Every week brings different products and different values. It takes time, patience, and a tremendous amount of effort to consistently find inventory that meets our standards. We gladly make that investment because we believe these products matter. For that reason, you'll find most of our mattress and appliance inventory in our New Products section. We encourage you to check back often — many of these opportunities are available in limited quantities, and once they're gone, they may never be available again. We'll do the searching so you don't have to. We'll spend our time finding exceptional values, inspecting products, and building relationships with wholesalers — so when the time comes that your family needs a mattress or appliance, you can shop with confidence knowing the hard work has already been done for you.
